What we like about PostgreSQL and SQLite:

What we dislike about PostgreSQL and SQLite:

### Our Review 

**Bottom line:** PostgreSQL and SQLite both speak SQL, but they target very different setups. Pick PostgreSQL when you're building a real application with concurrent users, complex queries, or growing data. Pick SQLite when you want a tiny, embedded database that ships with your app.

PostgreSQL is a full client-server database with deep feature support. It handles JSON, XML, arrays, geospatial data through PostGIS, and runs MVCC so transactions don't block each other. Users like its stability for mission-critical apps.

SQLite takes a different approach. It runs as a library inside your app, storing everything in one file. There's no server, no setup, and no DBA work. That makes it the go-to for mobile apps, desktop tools, and IoT devices where simplicity and small size matter most.

On pricing, PostgreSQL is free and open-source with no licensing fees. SQLite lists support starting at $6,000 one-time, though the core library is also free under a public domain license. So neither carries true software costs in most setups.

If you need write concurrency, replication, advanced indexing, or expect your data to grow, PostgreSQL is the call. If your data fits comfortably on one machine and you want zero admin overhead, SQLite is the better fit. Many teams use both, with SQLite on the client and PostgreSQL on the server.
