**Bottom line:** Microsoft Project is the better fit if you work in the Microsoft ecosystem and need a flexible tool for everyday project management. Primavera P6 is built for large, complex projects in industries like construction, engineering, and oil and gas where scheduling depth and portfolio control matter most.

Microsoft Project starts at $10 per user per month. Primavera P6 starts at $3,168 per user per year. That's a significant difference, and it reflects the gap in scope. If you're managing standard projects and don't need enterprise-scale scheduling tools, Microsoft Project's price point is much easier to justify.

Where Microsoft Project shines is its tight connection to the rest of the Microsoft stack. It works with Teams and SharePoint for collaboration, and pulls into Power BI for portfolio visibility. If your team already lives in Microsoft 365, that's a real advantage. The downside is that collaboration within the tool itself is a known weak spot, and resource allocation gets messy when you're managing multiple people across overlapping tasks.
