"Pay Now" feature lets employees access wages before payday - Includes PEO services and business insurance alongside payroll - AI-assisted recruiting and onboarding tools are built into the platform - Tiered packages are designed for specific company sizes, from one to thousands of employees - Biometric time clocks, including iris recognition, support accurate punch tracking - Payroll protection extends funds for up to seven days to cover last-minute payrolls Cons What we dislike about Paychex and Paychex Flex: - Add-on costs for time tracking, benefits admin, and training can add up quickly - Mobile app has occasional glitches and slow loading times on cellular data - Viewing team-wide time data requires clicking into individual profiles one at a time - High rep turnover can create noticeable gaps in customer service continuity - Initial onboarding takes time and users often find the setup process frustrating - Biometric clock functionality has reported issues with punches not registering correctly ### Our Review **Bottom line:** Paychex is a better fit if you want a broader HR platform — one that handles everything from business insurance to early wage access in addition to payroll. Paychex Flex works better if your main priority is scalable payroll processing with packages built around your company size. Both products start at $39 per month, so pricing isn't a deciding factor at the base level. Keep in mind that Paychex notes pricing can go up significantly with add-ons like time tracking and benefits administration, so your actual cost depends heavily on which features you need. For time and attendance, Paychex Flex has the edge. It supports biometric time clocks, including TrueShift and InVision iris recognition hardware, which are especially useful if you're managing a large hourly workforce. Paychex also offers time and attendance, but users find viewing team-wide data cumbersome since it requires clicking through individual profiles. If you need services beyond payroll, Paychex has more to offer. It includes PEO HR outsourcing, startup consulting, business insurance, and AI-assisted recruiting. These aren't features you'd typically get from Paychex Flex, which stays focused on payroll, benefits, and HR record management. Both products share a common weakness: customer service rep turnover. Users of both note that frequent rep changes can lead to gaps in support, so don't make customer service quality a differentiator when choosing between them. If you're a small to mid-size company that just needs solid payroll with defined tiers, Paychex Flex is a clean choice. If you want an all-in-one HR platform that grows beyond payroll into insurance and outsourced HR, Paychex gives you more room to expand. ### Analyst Rating Summary Overall Scores Based on the research and analysis by SelectHub's team of research analysts, Paychex has an analyst rating of 76.
