## What Is Teamwork?

**Industry Specialties:** Serves all industries

Teamwork is a visual solution that helps businesses plan, manage, collaborate on and accomplish projects of any size. With it, your team can view the full scope of a single project or a portfolio of projects while monitoring individual project components. Its capabilities range from Gantt charts and task management to team collaboration and dashboards.

Our research team scored Teamwork a 79 on 100, based on how well it supported 119 features and requirements, placing it eighth on our project management product leaderboard. Teamwork’s top-scoring modules include time tracking and management, team collaboration and customization.

Users appreciate Teamwork’s all-round functionality, convenient collaboration tools and built-in time tracking. On the flipside, they aren’t delighted about the steep learning curve, limited customization capabilities and complicated integrations. Teamwork’s pricing starts at $13.99 per user per month.

**Our Research Process for Teamwork**

Teamwork is an absolute beast of a solution. They offer a 30-day trial and I needed every second of it. Access to their Grow plan, sandwiched neatly between the starter and enterprise-level plans, offered a happy medium to test the waters.

I got off to a good start with the help of Teamwork’s built-in intro videos and onboarding checklist. During the trial, I set up a project that mirrored our current content workflow, complete with a project template, tasks, automations and custom fields.

With a little help from our selection platform, I compared Teamwork to [Airtable](https://www.selecthub.com/p/project-management-software/airtable/), [Smartsheet](https://www.selecthub.com/p/project-management-software/smartsheet/), [ProofHub](https://www.selecthub.com/p/project-planning-software/proofhub/) and [Jira](https://www.selecthub.com/p/project-management-software/jira/). I checked Reddit and software review sites and reached out to Teamwork users to get my finger on the pulse of user sentiment.

## Teamwork Benefits and Insights

Why use Teamwork?

### Key differentiators & advantages of Teamwork

* **Streamline Collaboration:** Teamwork scored an 88 for team collaboration, beating out ProofHub (86), Airtable (80), Jira (77) and Smartsheet (77). For me, Notebooks is Teamwork’s standout collaboration feature. I liked its collaborative editing with continuous syncing, so you can see what other users are adding in real time.
* **Log Time Accurately:** Our analysts gave Teamwork a score of 94 for time tracking and management, giving it a comfortable lead over Airtable (86), ProofHub (71), Smartsheet (56) and Jira (54). I thought Teamwork’s manual time tracking feature was handy, as it still allows you to set specific windows, like dates, hours and durations, where users can manually change entries.
* **Find Information Easily:** Tags and filters let you quickly access important data. Apply tags to various items and use a color scheme to keep track of different tags. Use filters to narrow down searches to specific elements such as comments, active tasks, project health statuses and more.

### Industry Expertise

Teamwork provides project management solutions to a variety of industries, including electronics, IT, engineering, retail, healthcare, telecom, entertainment, sports, eCommerce and more. It’s suitable for businesses of any size.

### Synopsis of User Ratings and Reviews

Based on an aggregate of Teamwork reviews taken from the sources above, the following pros & cons have been curated by a SelectHub Market Analyst.

#### Pros

* **Templates:** Users like how the templates cut down on set up times.
* **Collaborative:** Tabs to add messages, notes, links and comments, and real-time updates are a plus for reviewers.
* **Time-Tracking:** Users appreciate Teamwork’s built-in time tracker that helps eliminate manual errors.
* **Functionality:** Access to a wide range of capabilities all in one place is a major perk for users.

**What Users Liked**

* **Time-Tracking:** “We tracked how long each phase of design, sampling, and production took as we were organizing a fresh collection. It helped us identify traffic jams and streamline our operations for the next drop.”- [Jay Barton](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jay-barton-152978191), CEO of ASRV
* **Collaboration:** “Recently, we had a project that involved keeping several electricians on-site, our project manager in Sydney, and the client's team in-sync. We created a project space where everyone could access the latest plans, share photos of the progress, and flag any issues immediately.” - [Matt Little](https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt-little-au/), Founder and Managing Director of Festoon House
* **Milestone Tracking:** “Plumbing jobs do not always follow a set timeline, especially when you are dealing with emergency repairs. With Teamwork, we could mark major steps like sourcing parts, completing installations and final inspections, and even get a clear view of what was holding up a job. That helped cut our average completion time.” - [Caleb John](https://www.linkedin.com/in/caleb-john-53a900346), Managing Director at [Exceed Plumbing and Air Con](https://exceedplumbing.com.au/)

#### Cons

* **Offline Access:** Users note the lack of offline access is a problem when there is limited internet connectivity.
* **Bugs and Glitches:** Reviewers say there can be bugs with reporting and auto-logouts.

**What Users Disliked**

* **Task Dependencies:** “Our campaign rolled out design approvals before social media assets could be produced. Dependencies didn't always move right instead of gently adjusting when one piece ran late. It left us manually moving deadlines, which is a pain when you have a tight calendar.”- Jay Barton, CEO of ASRV
* **Recurring Tasks:** “I wanted the system to automatically push out the next maintenance date based on the completion of the previous one, but the date dependencies were not as straightforward as I had hoped. I had to jump through a few hoops with custom fields and rules to get it working just right.” - Matt Little, Founder and Managing Director of Festoon House
* **Offline Access:** “Plumbers working in basements or remote job sites didn’t always have service, and if the app wasn’t online, they couldn’t update job statuses. We had three cases where jobs looked incomplete because a tech couldn’t sync their updates until hours later, which led to unnecessary call-backs from the office.” - Caleb John, Managing Director at Exceed Plumbing and Air Con

#### Researcher's Summary:

I walked into this software test with only one question on my mind — “Does Teamwork really make the dream work?”

As soon as I hit the onboarding screen, I was charmed by the helpful intro videos that walk you through the setup and how to add your first tasks and project. This would be the start of my codependent relationship with their demo videos (it’s tough to build structures and customizations all by yourself).

If you need help — for example, with adding custom fields in the list view — you can use pop-up tabs with instructions. Bonus: you don’t have to go to a separate hidden screen to make all the setup changes.

Although the demo video advertised workflow management in the board view, it only applies to in-built templates from the library. I had to pay a visit to the Settings tab to add and modify the workflow I built from scratch, but I loved how easy it is to add and apply workflows. (Note: there is a three-workflow limit for this plan, so users with more workflows may need to upgrade.)

Another thing that excited me was the templatization of Teamwork. You can build project templates, workflow templates and task templates. Project templates are right next to your project lists. I liked that you can pull from Teamwork templates and then modify them, create your own from scratch (like I did for my content project) or apply templates you’ve created from scratch.

It’s super easy to create a task template with custom fields you’ve already saved or new ones you can add right there, along with dependencies, privacy settings and descriptions. You can also add email reminders for due dates without creating an automation for it (fantastic, I know).

I loved how customizations and templates are organized in the Settings tab — you can easily switch through each tab to see all your templates, workflows, custom fields, forms and integrations.

They had a demo for automation creation, but it was simple enough to figure out. The templates were all quite handy. I modified the template for stage changes using the SelectHub workflow I created earlier to add an assignee and comment when a task moves to the edit queue. It worked swimmingly.

Just a heads up, the automations tab automatically filters for the project you were working on. So if you want to find an automation from a project with a different workflow, just clear all filters.

Proofing is a new feature, so, of course, I had to check it out! It’s incredibly easy to create a proof, link it to a task (where it automatically creates a proofs tab), and add approval or review permissions. 10/10 would recommend for creative teams.

User reviews were on the same page as me about simplifying repetitive tasks with workflow automation, centralization, and the easy-to-use pre-built blocks and templates. However, they also felt the learning curve could be a bit steep and disliked the lack of offline access.

So, does Teamwork really make the dream work? Yes, especially for teams with multiple complex projects and PPM requirements, and if you can afford the paid plans (with add-ons) and have the IT resources to manage structure and setup.

## Key Features

* **Boards:** Organize tasks and create workflows that fit with Scrum and Kanban methodologies or your team’s unique processes. Configure column details, set up notifications that trigger with certain actions, set a color for each column, collapse columns and more. Move tasks between columns with simple drag and drop.
* **Teamwork Timer:** Accurately track time spent on projects. Track time automatically; and pause when a computer goes idle and resume when active. Edit the time log to ensure accuracy. Import tasks or add new timers for comprehensive tracking.nbsp;
* **Dashboards:** Get a real-time stream of project updates and notes. Get easy access to data like late tasks, events and milestones. Track project metrics by building dashboards for individual KPIs, including top risks, tasks, logged time (billed vs. unbilled), milestones and more. Position the panel layout with drag-and-drop functionality.
* **Integrations:** Integrate with over 45 popular modules to allow teams to work with their favorite applications. Connect with G Suite programs, Slack, QuickBooks, Zendesk, HubSpot, Dropbox and more. Plug in Zapier to access over 1500 additional applications.
* **Mobile Apps:** Work from anywhere with mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. Desktop apps work with macOS and Windows too.
* **Risk Register:** Minimize potential risks by recording and tracking events that may jeopardize a project. Set probability, impact, status and impact areas for every risk. Include notes on how to mitigate risks. Export the risk register as a PDF or Excel spreadsheet.
* **Task Management:** Create tasks and subtasks that can be assigned to multiple users. Prepare task dependencies, track task history for reporting purposes, add dates, leave comments and more.
* **Templates:** Create reusable templates for a number of different use cases. Include task lists, full projects, default categories, welcome emails for new members, default board columns and default user permissions. Choose items to include in the new project while copying like invoices, time logs, milestones, tasks and more.

## See It In Action: Templates

Discovering a way to save time when you’re deep in the trenches of multiple projects — that all conveniently have the same deadline — is like finding the Holy Grail. User reviews raved about Teamwork’s time-saving templates, so I had to put them to the test.

For starters, the Quick Add button is right there on the side panel. I liked that I didn’t have to exit out of my current screen to add a new template for a whole new project or a task.

![Teamwork Templates homepage.](https://www.selecthub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/teamwork-1.png)

I wanted to choose something I was familiar with, so I selected the Content Creation Workflow template. I loved that some of the templates were kind of niche, like podcast planning — something for everyone. The preview that shows you each template before you apply it is great too!

![Teamwork Content Creation template preview.](https://www.selecthub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/teamwork-2.png)

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the “To be written” status, so I changed it to “Planned.” It was super easy to modify statuses and change, delete or move tasks.

![Teamwork Content Creation board view.](https://www.selecthub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/teamwork-3.png)

At the right of each status name, there’s a little automation icon with a status change automation (my favorite). I set up a handy little notification for editors when the status changes to “For Review.”

![Teamwork Automation setup interface.](https://www.selecthub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/teamwork-4.png)

Overall, I liked the variety of templates and how easily you can use and modify them. Sure, you might have to delete tasks and add automations in the process, but it still definitely beats starting from scratch.

"description": "Teamwork is a visual solution that helps businesses plan, manage, collaborate on and accomplish projects of any size. Teamwork’s top-scoring modules include time tracking and management, team collaboration and customization.Users appreciate Teamwork’s all-round functionality, convenient collaboration tools and built-in time tracking. On the flipside, they aren’t delighted about the steep learning curve, limited customization capabilities and complicated integrations. Teamwork’s pricing starts at $13.99 per user per month. Our Research Process for TeamworkTeamwork is an absolute beast of a solution. They offer a 30-day trial and I needed every second of it. Access to their Grow plan, sandwiched neatly between the starter and enterprise-level plans, offered a happy medium to test the waters.I got off to a good start with the help of Teamwork’s built-in intro videos and onboarding checklist. During the trial, I set up a project that mirrored our current content workflow, complete with a project template, tasks, automations and custom fields. With a little help from our selection platform, I compared Teamwork to Airtable, Smartsheet, ProofHub and Jira. I checked Reddit and software review sites and reached out to Teamwork users to get my finger on the pulse of user sentiment.",

"reviewBody": "I walked into this software test with only one question on my mind — “Does Teamwork really make the dream work?”As soon as I hit the onboarding screen, I was charmed by the helpful intro videos that walk you through the setup and how to add your first tasks and project. This would be the start of my codependent relationship with their demo videos (it’s tough to build structures and customizations all by yourself). If you need help — for example, with adding custom fields in the list view — you can use pop-up tabs with instructions. Bonus: you don’t have to go to a separate hidden screen to make all the setup changes.Although the demo video advertised workflow management in the board view, it only applies to in-built templates from the library. I had to pay a visit to the Settings tab to add and modify the workflow I built from scratch, but I loved how easy it is to add and apply workflows. (Note: there is a three-workflow limit for this plan, so users with more workflows may need to upgrade.)Another thing that excited me was the templatization of Teamwork. You can also add email reminders for due dates without creating an automation for it (fantastic, I know).I loved how customizations and templates are organized in the Settings tab — you can easily switch through each tab to see all your templates, workflows, custom fields, forms and integrations. They had a demo for automation creation, but it was simple enough to figure out. The templates were all quite handy. I modified the template for stage changes using the SelectHub workflow I created earlier to add an assignee and comment when a task moves to the edit queue. It worked swimmingly.Just a heads up, the automations tab automatically filters for the project you were working on. So if you want to find an automation from a project with a different workflow, just clear all filters.Proofing is a new feature, so, of course, I had to check it out! It’s incredibly easy to create a proof, link it to a task (where it automatically creates a proofs tab), and add approval or review permissions. 10/10 would recommend for creative teams.User reviews were on the same page as me about simplifying repetitive tasks with workflow automation, centralization, and the easy-to-use pre-built blocks and templates. However, they also felt the learning curve could be a bit steep and disliked the lack of offline access. So, does Teamwork really make the dream work? Yes, especially for teams with multiple complex projects and PPM requirements, and if you can afford the paid plans (with add-ons) and have the IT resources to manage structure and setup."
