That said, there are trade-offs. There’s no built-in territory management, task automation is manual and email tools are fairly limited — no dynamic content or A/B testing. You can store up to a million contacts, but sending marketing emails is capped under HubSpot’s contact tier system.

**My verdict:** HubSpot Smart CRM is a great option if your team needs a starter CRM. The fact that it delivers all the basics, is simple to set up and packs AI into a free product, makes it hard to beat in terms of value.

However, don’t ignore the potential cost to scale. And if your team already depends on complex automation, ERP integrations or vertical-specific workflows, you may want to explore other tools that offer more customization and scalability out of the box.

## See It in Action: Lead To Deal Workflow in HubSpot Smart CRM

To test how seamless HubSpot’s lead management really is, I walked through the process of capturing a lead and turning it into a qualified deal.

  
1\. I started by creating a simple lead capture form using HubSpot’s drag-and-drop builder. Adding fields and embedding it on a test landing page was quick and easy. Once I submitted the form as a prospect, the CRM instantly created a contact record with the form data — no setup required.

2\. The profile was easily accessible from the Contacts dashboard. Everything was in one place: contact details, form submissions, page views and email engagement. I updated the Lifecycle Stage to “Marketing Qualified Lead” and added a note about the lead’s interest in a product demo. It was an easy, intuitive process that made it simple to keep lead context front and center.

3\. Next, I created a deal directly from the contact’s profile. The process was quick — I entered the deal name, amount and expected close date, then saved it to my default pipeline. 4\. Since automation features like workflows aren’t available in the free plan, I manually updated the Lifecycle Stage to “Sales Qualified Lead” from the contact profile. From there, the built-in CRM tools made it easy to:

Compared to popular systems like Salesforce Sales Cloud or Creatio, which often require admin training or partner-led setup, HubSpot makes CRM adoption feel lightweight. I was able to customize pipelines, create contact records from form submissions, assign deals and manage tasks — all without writing a line of code or needing to install any add-ons.One of Smart CRM’s biggest strengths is that it powers all of HubSpot’s hubs (Marketing, Sales, Service, Content, Operations, Commerce). You don’t have to combine separate tools or manage sync errors.This is a clear advantage over platforms like Zoho CRM or Pipeliner, where sales and marketing features can feel more siloed. In HubSpot, every interaction — from form fills to emails, notes and deals — feeds into a single timeline that your entire team can access.The interface itself is another highlight. Compared to the cluttered dashboards in Creatio or the highly visual (and sometimes busy) layouts in Pipeliner, I found HubSpot’s UI clean, intuitive and welcoming to CRM beginners.
