**Pros**
* You get Sunoh, an AI scribe that transcribes patient consults into structured notes automatically
* You also get excellent claims management with batch submission, error detection, and CMS-1500 forms
* eClinicalWorks earned a perfect score in our analysis for compliance, covering HIPAA, encryption and role-based access
* You also get online patient scheduling with automated reminders
**Cons**
* You can't customize templates much, which can be limiting if you’re at a specialty setup
* Users say providers will need time to learn complex features
* Users also say support is slow and inconsistent
* You won't get offline mobile access, which limits its usability for field care workers

[Read Full Review](https://www.selecthub.com/p/ehr-software/eclinicalworks/) [Visit Site](https://www.eclinicalworks.com/)

**Bottom line:** eClinicalWorks is a strong fit if you’re at a small- to mid-sized practice that prioritizes claims management, compliance, and high-volume billing. It’s less ideal if you need deep template customization, offline mobile access, or hands-on support.

The platform works well for primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, and cardiology, where standardized workflows and claims accuracy matter most. Its HIPAA and HL7 compliance coverage is thorough. eClinicalWorks integrates with clearinghouses like Waystar and Optum, along with common labs and eRx networks.

Cloud setup is straightforward, though configuring billing and compliance features can take time. Support can also be inconsistent, so be ready for some heavy lifting during setup. Pricing starts at $449 per provider monthly.

If you need stronger mobile support, I suggest checking out NextGen Office.

* **Claims automation** – You can batch-submit claims, auto-fill CMS-1500 forms, and track them by payer or status to catch errors before submission.
* **AI documentation** – Sunoh, the AI tool, listens to patient-provider conversations and turns them into structured notes automatically.
* **Coding assistance** – The system auto-suggests visit codes, lets you search diagnoses using natural language, and flags codes that don't match patient demographics.
* **healow Pay** – Patients can pay their balance online via card, bank transfer, or digital wallet, and automated reminders follow up on anything overdue.
* **No-show prediction** – An AI model identifies high-risk no-shows and sends targeted reminders so you can fill empty appointment slots proactively.

**Pros**
* You get scheduling, billing, and patient records in one system
* Tebra earns a perfect score in our analysis for billing, with automatic claim scrubbing that increases the chances of approval the first time
* You get excellent clinical documentation capabilities, including auto-generated notes and structured templates
* Pricing is competitive for small and independent practices
**Cons**
* Users say hidden add-on and data export fees can catch you off guard later
* Users also say customer support is slow and hard to reach
* Users say billing and insurance enrollment setup can take longer than expected
* You won't get offline mobile access, and the app doesn't adapt well across different screen sizes

**Bottom line:** Tebra is a strong choice for small, independent, outpatient practices that need scheduling, billing, documentation, and patient engagement in one system. If offline mobile access and complex treatment plans are must‑haves, you may want to look elsewhere.

It's purpose-built for family medicine, pediatrics, primary care, and psychology, and particularly well-suited for new practices. Our analysts gave Tebra a 100 for medical billing, with automated claims, error detection, insurance eligibility checking, and flexible payment options.

Being cloud-based, implementation is quick. If you’re at a new practice, you have the added advantage of data migration being lighter. Integrations include WebPT and Practice Fusion, plus open APIs.

If you’re opening soon, start vendor conversations early — pricing is custom, so clarify add-ons, clearinghouse fees, and data exports upfront. If you want greater service depth, I suggest checking out athenaOne.

* **ePrescribing** – You can send prescriptions to pharmacies, check drug interactions, and review medication history without leaving the clinical workflow.
* **Patient intake** – Patients can fill out intake forms online before their appointment, and their responses sync automatically into Tebra.
* **E-lab ordering** – You can send orders directly to 700+ labs without paper forms — the results subsequently auto-populate in the patient's chart.
* **Patient reminders** – Tebra automatically tracks appointments and sends SMS/ email reminders to patients to reduce no-shows.
* **Telehealth** – Run HIPAA-compliant video visits for up to 200 participants, with a digital waiting room to keep patient flow organized.

**Pros**
* athenaOne earns best-in-class honors in our analysis for integrations, with built-in API support and partner connectivity to fit into your tech stack
* You get real-time eligibility checks and copay collection to get claims right the first time
* You also get dashboards to view revenue, claims, and patient data
* Auto-saving charts and pre-visit questionnaires reduce typing work and repetitive questions
**Cons**
* Pricing isn't transparent and can add up over time, putting it out of reach of orgs with tight budgets
* Virtual care options are limited
* The system can crash occasionally, disrupting daily tasks
* Too many clicks to move between billing, charts and scheduling can slow down your team

[Read Full Review](https://www.selecthub.com/p/ehr-software/athenaone/) [Visit Site](https://www.athenahealth.com/)

**Bottom line:** athenaOne is a good fit if you're at a mid-to-large practice that needs clinical and billing workflows for high-volume operations. It might not be ideal if you're a smaller practice (<5 people) or need an affordable, lightweight entry-level EHR.

In terms of industry fit, the platform should work well for primary care, cardiology, and orthopedics where revenue cycle management drives profitability. You get over 200 APIs, including labs (Quest, LabCorp), pharmacies (Surescripts), payer portals, and payment processors.

While implementation isn’t plug and play, the vendor provides dedicated project managers to help you configure billing rules and templates. Pricing is quote-based and can add up as user count increases, which can be unsustainable if you’re on a tight budget.

If you want enterprise-scale customization, I suggest you check out EpicCare.

* **Eligibility verification** – Before each appointment, the system checks patient insurance coverage and alerts front-office staff if something needs to be sorted out ahead of time.
* **Billing checks** – athenaOne automatically flags coding and documentation issues before claims go out, so fewer are rejected on the first pass.
* **Claim management** – If claims get rejected, automated alerts walk your team through the fixes so you can resubmit them without losing time.
* **Authorization tracking** – You can initiate same-day authorizations for urgent care and track pending approvals right inside the billing system.
* **Coding assistance** – Coding suggestions and mismatch alerts help your team spot ICD-10-CM and CPT errors before they trigger claim rejections.

**Bottom line:** NextGen Office is a good fit if you’re at a small to mid-sized practice that wants a cloud EHR, PM, and billing system without heavy IT involvement. It’s less ideal for organizations needing on-premise data control or highly customized enterprise workflows.

The platform fits ambulatory specialties like pediatrics and OB/GYN but isn’t built for inpatient care. A free trial lets you test before committing, which can be helpful if you’re a new practice evaluating systems.

Implementation is light, being browser-based, and pricing involves subscription. Go-live is quick, though staff will need training on templates and billing workflows. Pricing starts at $299 per user monthly.

Integrations include payers, lab systems, and clearinghouse services, but extensibility is limited as there’s no open API. I suggest checking out athenaOne if you want heavier revenue management and broader integrations.

Good For:

Small & medium companies

* Pros & Cons
* ★ Review
* Key Features
* Media

**Pros**
* You can use the platform without extensive training
* You get full HIPAA and ONC certification built in, with encrypted data storage
* At $199 per provider monthly, Practice Fusion is one of the more affordable options out there
* You can try it free before committing, and implementation is quick with minimal disruption
**Cons**
* You won't get strong billing tools for managing complex claims or reimbursements
* Users say the toolset feels outdated
* A cluttered interface can slow down your team
* Users also say customer support is slow and often unhelpful when issues come up

**Bottom line:** Practice Fusion is a good fit if you're running a small or independent practice that needs an affordable, easy-to-adopt EHR. It might not be ideal if you have complex billing needs, rely heavily on support, or have growth plans beyond 5 providers.

Practice Fusion will fit primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, and basic behavioral health setups where simple visit notes and e-prescribing dominate. Implementation is the quickest in its class, being cloud-based, but expect 2-4 hours of self-guided training per user.

That said, it’s not ideal if you need advanced billing workflows, payer-specific rules, or highly responsive support. There’s also no open API or deep third-party ecosystem.

If strong billing matters, I suggest you consider Tebra. If you want better mobile UX and customization, DrChrono may be a better fit.

* **Billing automation** – athenaOne can auto-generate superbills from chart notes and scrub claims for errors before you submit them to insurers.
* **E-prescriptions** – You can send prescriptions to pharmacies, manage refills, and reorder recurring medications with a two-click refill tool.
* **Charting templates** – You can document patient visits faster with customizable templates.
* **Online scheduling** – Patients can book appointments online, get automatic reminders, and set up visits without calling your front desk.
* **Integrations** – Pull results from hundreds of labs like LabCorp and Quest directly into patient charts without manual entry.

## How We Chose and Reviewed Products

The recommendations in this list are based on in-depth research from our EHR analysts. They selected the 5 best products based on a blend of the following criteria:

* Product popularity
* User reviews and ratings
* SelectHub in-house data
* Hands-on experience
* Market analysts’ reports
* Thought leaders’ opinions
* Information available in the public domain

Products with better user reviews were given preference, provided they adequately met the other criteria listed.
