**Bottom line:** Intercom and Olark both handle live chat, but they're built for different buyers. Intercom suits growing teams that want chatbots, product tours and multi-channel messaging in one platform. Olark fits small to mid-sized businesses that just want a simple, affordable chat widget on their site.

Intercom starts at $39 per seat per month and Olark starts at $29 per seat per month. Olark's lower entry price and straightforward per-operator model make it easier to budget for smaller teams. Users tell us Intercom's pricing can feel hard to parse and skew expensive as you add features.

If you need automation, Intercom pulls ahead. You get code-free bots that triage chats, qualify leads and route conversations. You also get product tours, email campaigns and a visual builder for behavior-based messaging. Olark sticks to core live chat and doesn't include custom bots at all.

Olark is the better pick if you want something light. The interface is clean, setup is quick and pre-chat surveys plus canned responses cover most day-to-day needs. It also supports over 100 languages and integrates with common CRMs, help desks and ecommerce tools.
