Entra ID is a full identity platform for managing people across apps and cloud services. AWS IAM controls access to AWS resources specifically. Pick based on what you actually need to govern. Entra ID fits if you need a workforce or customer identity platform with SSO, MFA, conditional access, and lifecycle management across many apps. It's strongest in Microsoft-centric stacks but covers third-party SaaS too. AWS IAM fits if your job is locking down AWS resources with fine-grained permissions, roles, and policy-based control. Users praise the granular control and audit logging, but it can't reach beyond AWS, which is a dealbreaker for multi-cloud setups. On pricing, Entra ID uses quote-based pricing in the $10 to $100 range, so you'll need a sales conversation. AWS IAM is included with your AWS account at no separate charge, with the published range listed as $10 or less.
