**Bottom line:** Zeffy is the better fit if keeping every dollar of donations is your top priority and your fundraising needs are straightforward. Givebutter makes more sense if you need a broader set of tools — events, auctions, text-to-give, multi-channel outreach — and you're willing to work with a tip-or-fee model.

Zeffy runs entirely on optional donor tips, so there are no platform fees and no transaction costs. That model works well for smaller nonprofits or those running basic campaigns where cost efficiency matters most. Users appreciate how easy it is to get started, and the customer support is consistently well-regarded. The tradeoff is a more limited feature set — if you need auctions, in-depth reporting, or a full communications suite, Zeffy may fall short.

Givebutter takes a different approach. It starts at $0.30 per transaction plus a 2.9% flat rate, though donors can also cover fees through the tip model. You get a much wider toolkit in return: live-streamed events, peer-to-peer fundraising with team leaderboards, text-to-donate, advanced segmentation, and built-in communications with email, video and social tools. That breadth is a real advantage if you're running multi-channel campaigns or need more control over how you engage donors.

On customization, Givebutter lets you add branding to forms, pages and emails, but full custom donation pages are limited to premium accounts. Zeffy offers customizable forms and campaign pages as well, including multi-language support, which is useful if your donor base spans multiple languages.

If you want zero fees and simplicity, Zeffy is hard to beat. If you need a more complete fundraising platform and don't mind a small cost per transaction, Givebutter gives you more to work with.
