Pick Anaplan if you want connected planning across finance, sales, and supply chain in a flexible cloud platform. Pick Essbase if you need a proven multi-dimensional calculation engine, especially when you're already in the Oracle stack. Anaplan's strength is breadth. You can model finance, marketing, sales, supply chain, and HR in one place, then run what-if scenarios against live data. Users like how it links departments and keeps everyone working off the same numbers. Essbase leans into depth. Its multi-dimensional database, ASO and BSO storage options, and write-back support give you fine control over how big or complex models run. The tradeoff is that getting full value can mean learning Calc scripts, MDX, business rules, and Groovy. Pricing splits cleanly. Anaplan starts at $20,000 per year, while Essbase starts at $80 per user per month. The intervals don't match, so don't try to read one as cheaper. Anaplan looks like a platform commitment up front, and Essbase scales by seat with extra costs for features and storage. For tech stack fit, Anaplan plays well with distributed teams and mixed environments.
