Snowflake runs across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, so you're not tied to one provider. It separates storage and compute, which means you can scale either one without touching the other. Redshift is AWS-only, but that focus pays off if you already use S3, EMR, or Kinesis since the links between them are clean and well-supported.

On pricing, Snowflake starts at $0.001 per credit billed monthly, while Redshift starts at $0.25 billed hourly. The models work differently enough that you'll want to map them to your own workload before comparing. Snowflake's usage-based billing rewards careful monitoring, and Redshift offers reserved instances and pause/resume options to keep spend in check.

For day-to-day work, Snowflake's interface gets praise for being approachable, though its deeper features take time to learn.
