**Bottom line:** Microsoft 365 is the better pick if you need a full productivity suite with deep collaboration tools, AI assistance, and a broad app ecosystem. Zimbra makes more sense if you want a focused email and collaboration platform, especially one you can self-host and customize.

Microsoft 365 brings together the full Office app suite, Teams, OneDrive, and tools like Power Automate into one subscription. If your work involves heavy document creation, real-time co-authoring, or video meetings built around shared files, it's hard to beat. Zimbra doesn't offer desktop productivity apps, but it handles email, calendar, contacts, and tasks well, and its open-source edition gives you more control over how it's deployed.

Microsoft 365 starts at $6 per user per month. Zimbra starts at $18.99 per mailbox per year. The lower annual cost of Zimbra can be appealing for education and government environments where email and calendar are the core need, not a full productivity suite.
