Azure Databricks is the better fit if you want a managed, cloud-native platform that gets your team up and running fast with less infrastructure work. Hadoop's distributed file system and MapReduce model are built for batch processing massive datasets across clusters of commodity hardware. That makes it a solid choice when you need to process terabytes or petabytes of data and have the engineering resources to manage the environment. Azure Databricks takes a different approach — it runs an optimized version of Apache Spark in a managed workspace, which means faster setup, built-in real-time processing, and less time spent on cluster configuration. If your team works across data science, engineering, and analytics, Azure Databricks gives you a shared workspace where everyone can collaborate in Python, R, Scala or SQL without switching tools. Hadoop doesn't offer that kind of built-in collaboration layer — you'd need to build it yourself or add other tools from the Apache ecosystem. On pricing, both products require a custom quote, so you'll need to contact each vendor for specifics based on your usage and scale.
