That gap matters most for independent artists, students, and small studios who can't justify a recurring subscription. If budget is the deciding factor, Blender wins without much debate. 3ds Max earns its price through fit with the Autodesk ecosystem and support for Arnold and V-Ray. Users praise it for reliability on complex architectural and VFX projects, and studios often expect it on a resume.
